We learnt that no matter how small, each of the improvements in attitude and behaviour can accumulate into making a big difference.  These values are good for team morale and customer service.

In only a short time, I have seen the benefits to the team and going forward feel this is a fantastic way of getting the message across to individuals and teams about what the Council is aiming to achieve and how we all play a very important part in making that happen.

“This is a new team and through these first 2 sessions we have developed a sense of identity as a team ……members were working in isolation but now they are proactively involved in the team as a whole.”

“Colleagues are feeling empowered to challenge and to be challenged.”

“The zones” have supported many vulnerable children, children who were troubled by challenging experiences early in life which as a result can leave them feeling sad, empty and withdrawn. The children have been helped to find calmness within themselves, to feel more confident and thoughtful. Indeed it can be a life-changing experience.

We entirely share the Tranquillity Zone / Discovery Zone philosophy which is to develop a healthy human spirit in children. We pride ourselves on our inclusive ethos and the practical work TZ/DZ has undertaken with some of our most vulnerable groups has added considerable value to their experience of both learning and living – in particular at Key Stage 3 level – to regularly reflect on their potential as human beings and as contributors in society.

The children in these last 2 groups have been some of the most vulnerable individuals in upper Key Stage 2. Some children in addition have learning needs and severe emotional behaviour needs. All of the children at the end of the programme felt that the Tranquillity/Discovery Programme had made a positive impact on their lives and they were able to articulate this clearly using the language from the programme.

Evidence shows that within term 1, the Tranquillity Programme has had a very positive impact in reducing underachievement in the children attending. In turn this should have an encouraging effect on the children’s self-esteem and self-regard.

Alongside this data, parents have provided the school with extremely optimistic reports of the impact Tranquillity has had in the home setting.
